As Ayurvedic medicine and conventional pharmaceuticals are increasingly used together, understanding herb–drug interactions is critical to ensuring patient safety and therapeutic efficacy. Certain herbal compounds can alter drug absorption, metabolism, or activity, potentially enhancing or reducing therapeutic effects or causing adverse reactions. This session at the Traditional Medicine World Congress 2026 will examine the principles, mechanisms, and clinical implications of herb–drug interactions in Ayurvedic practice.
The session will cover commonly used Ayurvedic herbs, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic considerations, documented interactions with modern medications, and evidence-based strategies to manage potential risks. Discussions will also focus on clinical monitoring, patient counseling, and integrating traditional and modern therapeutic systems safely. By addressing these critical safety issues, this session aims to enhance practitioner knowledge, promote responsible use of herbal medicines, and foster safe, evidence-informed integration of Ayurveda within modern healthcare.
